Internet/World Wide Web ?

Vinton Cerf and Bob Kahn are credited with the invention of what we call the modern-day internet. The internet at its core is the physical global network that unites computers and other electronic devices. The U.S. Department of Defense created ARPANET, (the first workable prototype of the internet), which used packet switching to allow multiple computers to communicate on a single network. While the internet currently is used as a tool to communicate with others, in addition, to providing access to information in a very personalized and somewhat private fashion, it originally had a more centralized and practical application. What makes your browsing experience somewhat unique now is the World wide web and how we use it.

In 1989 Sir Tim Berners- Lee created what we know as the world wide web. It is what we see when our electronics are connected to the internet. Essentially the web is a layer on top of the internet that gives us access to the tools of the web. Berners found a way to speed up the way information was shared via the internet and the key was the Web. Since its origins, the web has become more sophisticated especially in the amount that we share but also how we share, for example, videos, pictures, and audio are all daily parts of exploring the world wide web today compared to 30 years ago.

The internet and the world wide web are two separate things that are synergistic in their nature therefore hard to differentiate. I like to describe it metaphorically as if they were a book, the internet being the pages and binding of the book whereas the written words are the world wide web. One facilitates the other, in this case, the way the paper facilitates the words of a book, the internet facilitates the world wide web, and what is accessible to viewers. The very first website to no surprise was made by Tim Berners-Lee in 1993 and is still up to this date. The Browser — WorldWideWeb NeXT Application.
