Autoscopy

For this autoscopy project, our goal was to use images to communicate something that we recently discovered about ourselves. I wanted to bring to light a big weakness I feel I have which is my habit to procrastinate and get myself in situations that are hard to solve. I wanted to communicate that running out of time is something I fear but keeps reoccurring and causes unnecessary pressure and stress. In this instance, I used a digital clock to represent time running out and starting to burn up in lava which represents a hard to get out of the situation. I warped my face to look like I am starting to melt and also show that I am my own hot lava.  For this project, I found it somewhat hard to express a very personal way of looking at myself with basic images. Technically I didn't find this assignment too difficult. The most challenging part however was organizing the layers and masks.

  1. Your autoscopy project turned out very well and it's really cool how you had your face warped to look like it's going to melt. The idea being this, which is your procrastination and getting into hard t solve situations, comes out really well in this project from the countdown clock and, as mentioned before, the melting of your face. Overall, this looks really good, great job.

  2. I really enjoyed reading your blog post. I found your autoscopy very effective at conveying your message of procrastination. I really like how you combined all the images together to create a panic tone. As Anna stated, I really like how you warped your face to reference time and the hot lava. Overall, your autoscopy is very interesting and conveys the overall message very well.

  3. I really liked how your project turned out! I feel like procrastination is something we all struggle with and it was really cool that you could accurately convey the feelings of procrastination through the autoscopy project. All of the blending and edging was very well done and everything looks clean and "sharp". I think the lava in the background was the perfect choice to give the project that last perfect detail. Overall, amazing job!

I think your image conveys your message very well, as when I first looked at the final piece, I knew it had something to do with time management. Your facial expression is perfect and I love that you edited your face to be all wavy; I think that's my favorite part about this project. I love this project and super great job!

  7. The warp is very good! As someone who comes from a long line of procrastinators, I can relate to the feeling of always running out of time. I will admit though that before I read your artist statement I though you'd edited yourself to be dragged into hell
